Swift Current's roller derby teams are preparing for another season, with their season opener coming up this Saturday.

The InnovationPlex Curling Rink will host the opener, the evening will kick off at 4:30 p.m. with the Juniors, the Ra Ra Riots.

Swift Current's Redneck Betties will take on the Pile of Bones from Regina at 7 p.m.

Kyla Poole, member of the Betties who is also known as 'Panic', is thrilled for another great season with both new members and returning roller derby veterans.

"A lot of fun, [there's] hitting which is not common in some female-driven sports, but we get to hit so that's cool," said Poole. "A lot of action and high speed."

All three levels of the Juniors will be competing, from the children to the teens, against Saskatoon's Bridge City Bruisers.

Everyone is welcome to come watch. admissions are $10 for ages 18 and up, $5 for ages 12 - 17, and 11 and under are free.

"We have a few more games this year, we have another one on May 25, we have one on June 21, and then we are doing a very fun event out in Gull Lake in August," added Poole.

Anyone interested in keeping up with the roller derby teams can find them on Facebook or Instagram at the Redneck Betties and the Ra Ra Riots.
