For the third consecutive year, kids from Swift Current and the surrounding areas attended the annual Food Farm event held at the Swift Current Research and Development Centre.

Sixty-one kids on Wednesday and another 96 kids on Thursday attended the event to learn about the various aspects of agriculture and food development in Saskatchewan.

Kari Burnett, agriculture awareness champion at the Ministry of Agriculture's office in Swift Current, looked forward to the opportunity that these kids were getting.

"This allows students to go out and get their hands dirty," Burnett added. "There's a lot of good interaction, and the kids seem to really be interested in what's going on."

Stations varied from planting vegetables to learning about the business side of farming and food processing, something that Burnett felt was important.

"They can see first hand the workings of what goes on at a farm and to show them where their food comes from," she explained.

Although agriculture can be a serious topic, Burnett said it's about giving the kids a fun opportunity to learn.

"Just the reaction on the kids faces when we tell them some facts," she said is her favourite part of the two-day event. "Just to be apart of this big event is exciting for them."

The event is set to conclude today with all 12 stations in use to accommodate the near 100 kids that will be attending.
