There's a chance for livestock producers to stock up on their winter feed while supporting the Canadian Foodgrains Bank - a Christian Response to Hunger.

The Lone Tree Growing Project north of Swift Current is offering 616 alfalfa bales in an auction on Tuesday afternoon, with the proceeds being donated toward the Foodgrains Bank's efforts to end global hunger.

Troy LaForge helped manage the Lone Tree project, and said the hay crop this year went very well.

"On our first cut, we got a little over 600 bales of alfalfa hay. Because of the way the season went, we were actually able to take a second cut. At the time, everyone was fairly busy so we had a local producer north of town who bought the hay standing, and baled up the second cut," he said.

LaForge says it's the third year they've focused on hay.

"We decided to do something a little different about 3 years ago. We wanted the ability for more of our livestock producers to be involved with our projects so we decided to produce hay for 3 years. This will be the last year of hay production and we're planning on getting back into crop production next year," he said.

The auction will be held at the Lone Tree Growing Project Site north of Swift Current and online at switzerauction.ca at 1:30pm on Tuesday afternoon.
