A long-planned upgrade to the intersection of Battleford Trail and Central Avenue North is moving forward with its first phase on Monday, prompting the city to release a warning about expected periodic closures.

With additional funding first announced from SGI in May of last year and officially placed on the capital projects docket for 2020 when the budget was announced in January, the estimated 7-week job is hoping to increase safety at the intersection by completing the realignment of its sightlines and concrete median configuration.

This is the first phase of a two-phase project and will begin on Monday, May 11, 2020.

Phase one will perform meidan and road work on the centre and east portions of the intersection from May 11 to June 1.

Phase two will perform the same work on the west portion of the intersection from June 1 to June 26.

Both phases will include partial traffic closures and drivers are being advised in advance to exercise caution, follow posted detours or plan alternate routes during this time.

See below for attached maps detailing the project.
