Saskatchewan Pork Producers heard more about Maple Leaf’s plans during their 2-day symposium in Saskatoon this week.
Saskatchewan Pork Producers heard more about Maple Leaf’s plans during their 2-day symposium in Saskatoon. Maple Leaf announced last month that it's closing it’s Saskatoon based facility as part of a broad restructuring plan. The slaughter plant is expected to close in the next 12 to 18 months. C-E-O Michael McCain says he hopes Saskatchewan hogs can be processed in Manitoba when a second shift is added at Maple Leaf's Brandon plant. He adds it’s highly unlikely a deal will be struck with Saskatchewan pork producers to keep the company's plant open.
