The newly elected Mayor of Swift Current was at Mayoral meetings earlier this month in Regina.

The meetings allowed city Mayors and city Managers(CAOs) from around the province to get together and discuss common themes and issues.

The Minister of Municipal Affairs was on hand, as well as MP Ralph Goodale who is with Public Safety.

Potential grant programs for cities were discussed, as well as the process in which to apply for them.

Mayor Denis Perrault explains that the meeting put on by the Saskatchewan Urban Municipality Association came at a convenient time for himself in regards to his term as Mayor.

"It happens twice per year, but I was very thankful to have it as quickly to the election as we did just to get the ball rolling. Just one week after the election Tim Marcus (City of Swift Current's CAO) and myself went, and I got a lot out of it. I took a lot of notes and shared them with Council," he said.

Mayor Perrault also says he is grateful for the opportunity to meet with some of the more experienced Mayors.

"Thanks to the experienced Mayors that sat down with me, especially Mayor Fougere (Regina) - I really enjoyed meeting with him. We sat at the same corner together and provided a really good amount of insight for me on some things I could do to make my city better - I was thankful for that," he said.

Perrault, who will head into his second Council meeting as Mayor this next Monday, December 5th, says he is excited for the next set of Mayoral meetings in May.
