The Swift Current Broncos started their BC Division road swing in style with a 5-1 win over the Kelowna Rockets.

Tyler Steenbergen scored twice and Lane Pederson added two assists, while Colby Sissons, Glenn Gawdin and Aleksi Heponiemi had a goal and a helper.

"I feel very good about our game tonight," said Broncos associate coach Ryan Smith. "For the better part of the game we did the little things right and that got us through."

Swift Current went 3 for 4 on the power play while holding Kelowna to 0 for 3.

"Whatever they're giving you you have to take on the power play," Smith said. "We saw they were slumped a lttle bit and sagging so we used the top of the point. It's a work in progress and tonight was really good to see."

Taz Burman made 25 saves including a few big ones to earn first star of the night and the victory in the Swift Current goal.

"He played well," Smith said. "There were some jams around the crease and plays in and around his feet and he just held. Those can go sideways really quick. He was solid and he's been solid all year."

The Broncos are now 4-0-0-1 on the road to start the season and 7-2-0-1 overall. They're tied wth Regina for top spot in the WHL Eastern Conferenece.

"I just think we get contributions from different guys all the time," Smith noted. "Our depth is pretty important especially on the road when you can't get match-ups every face-off."

Swift Current travels to Prince George to face the WHL leading Cougars on Tuesday.
