A good start for the Swift Current Broncos slipped away as the game went on a 3-1 loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Mark Rassell scored shorthanded 3:25 into the third period to pull the Tigers ahead on a night where special teams significantly favoured Medicine Hat.

"We got selfish," said Broncos associate coach Ryan Smith. "We got individual guys doing individual things not playing to the team game. When you do that you're never going to have success. You need everybody on the same page."

The Broncos got off to a hot start as Arthur Miller scored his second goal in as many games off a quick snap shot coming down the left wing less than two minutes into the game. Swift Current could have had a few goals in the opening period as they outshot the Tigers 15-8 and Nick Schneider was strong in Medicine Hat's net.

David Quenneville's power play goal allowed the Tigers to finish the first period tied.

"We came out strong everything was going good," Miller said. "But then we have to stick to what our coach is putting out for a game plan and that's what we got away from. They have a lot of skill and speed of there but we have the same speed and skill in our locker room. We just have to do what our coaches put out there and we'll get the two points every night."

Swift Current had their chances in the second period as both Riley Stotts and Tyler Adams hit posts. The game got away from them after the Rassell shorthanded goal and the Broncos never could get their power play going.

Medicine Hat went 2 for 5 on their power play while holding the Broncos to 0 for 6. The Tigers pulled away outshooting Swift Current 22-6 in the third.

"The only positive you can take is Taz Burman," Smith said. "Everybody else wasn't very good tonight. The game could have been 15-12 if the goalies weren't on."

Burman made 41 saves for the Broncos in a losing cause. Schneider stopped 27 shots in the Medicine Hat goal.

Swift Current is now 2-2 on the season and finish a busy weekend with an afternoon game in Brandon on Sunday.

The Broncos honoured Head Athletic Trainer and Equipment Manager Jamie LeBlanc before the game as he reached a milestone 1000th CHL game in that role.

Swift Current will have Colby Sissons back in their lineup as he was returned to the team from NHL camp in New Jersey. They also re-assigned forward Josh Baker to Spruce Grove of the AJHL.

You can listen to Sunday's game on The Eagle 94.1 FM with Roberston Family Group Broncos Hockey at 2:30pm.
