The Swift Current Broncos wrap up the pre-season this weekend with a home game against Prince Albert tonight and a visit to Moose Jaw tomorrow.

With two games remaining in the pre-season, the Broncos big question is in goal.

19-year-old veterans Travis Child and Taz Burman are battling for the starter's job while having been pushed by several young goaltenders throughout camp and exhibition.

Burman says healthy competition can be a positive thing.

“I think it’s great to have two guys pushing each other. Two good goalies is better than one. He (Child) has played really well and done really well. I’ve done pretty good as well, I think that’s healthy for the team,” said Burman.

The rivalry between the two will instill confidence amongst the team.

“I think it (the competition), is good for the team. They guys know it doesn’t matter who’s in net, they’re going to perform and they will be there for the guys, which I think will be huge for the team as there isn’t any doubt when one of us comes in, the guys know we can get it done,” Burman said.

Burman and Child had very similar numbers for the Broncos last season and neither has yet to take the reigns as a full time number one. They've both had strong pre-seasons as well.

Child has a 2.17 goals against average and .919 save percentage in two appearances, while Burman has basically matched him with a 2.19 goals against average and .921 save percentage.

The only other young goaltender left with the team is 17-year-old Bailey Brkin who signed with the team after a strong training camp.

The battle for positions continues this weekend with a home game against Prince Albert tonight and a visit to Moose Jaw tomorrow.

Both games will be live on The Eagle 94.1 FM with Robertson Family Group Broncos Hockey at 6:30pm.
