For Richmond's Glenn Gawdin this Swift Current Broncos BC road swing will very likely be his last opportunity to play in some of the cities in his home province before he starts his pro career.

He's enjoying the ride.

“It's nice the family gets to come out,” Gawdin said. “We only get to come every two years so obviously it's a little more special. It's better when you win.”

Gawdin has been getting to know some new teammates and trying out different linemates this year as the Broncos have made some stylistic changes to how they play.

“Just trying to get some chemistry with some of the guys,” Gawdin said. “Everybody has been able to play with each other. Trying to get some chemistry these road swings can help with that and hopefully we can build on that.”

The St. Louis Blues draft pick is off to a great start with 8 goals in his first 10 games including a goal and an assist on each game of this road trip so far.

“I'm just trying to put more on net and trying to get in better spots,” Gawdin said. “I'm playing with some pretty good players that find me if I'm open. I'm just trying to capitalize on those chances and go to the net more.”

As the longest serving member of the Broncos he is keenly aware of a growing responsibility for him as a leader.

“Every year it builds,” Gawdin noted. “I'm the only guy that has been here this long. I kind of know how it works and with a new coach I try to help him out as well. Just try to help the young guys out and try some leadership on and off the ice.”

The 8-3-0-1 Broncos head to Victoria tonight to face a skilled Royals club fresh off a 9-3 win over Saskatoon.

"They're high octane as well," said Broncos Associate Coach Ryan Smith. "They've got some little guys that are shifty and can make plays. They've got some bigger veteran guys that can shoot the puck hard. We need to rebound from (the Kamloops loss) we've set ourselves up for a pretty good road trip winning the first two now we've dropped one and we want to become a team that doesn't lose two in a row."
