The 18th annual Swift Current Titans Wrestling Tournament was held on Saturday.

Over 250 wrestler from all over the province took to the mats inside the Swift Current Comprehensive High School gym.

The Titans wrestling club claimed 18 gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze in the day-long event.

"I was really pleased with the results (for our club) but more than the results I was pleased with how the kids wrestled," said Swift Current Titans Wrestling Club head coach Curtis Biem Sunday afternoon. "Getting a gold medal depends on who's in your weight class. If you're in a weight class that doesn't have the same level as competition, you could wrestle poorly and win gold or you could wrestle really well in a tough weight class and get bronze or even below."

Last year's annual tournament saw approximately 200 wrestlers compete in the competition.

"I think it's just a testament to the community that we have, not only Swift Current but more specifically the community of the Titans Wrestling Club that they're really made a commitment to making this like a first class event," he told Swift Current Online. "Other teams recognize that parents and teams are willing to travel."

The tournament featured some wrestlers who traveled from Meadow Lake, Esterhazy and Cochrane, Alberta.

Biem credited parents, grandparents and friends for making the tournament success.
