The Moose Jaw Warriors cooled off a hot Swift Current Broncos offence tonight with a 4-2 victory at Mosaic Place.

The Broncos came in with the most goals of any WHL team in the pre-season, but with a lot of their top scorers out of the lineup were held relatively in check by Moose Jaw.

Glenn Gawdin, Max Lajoie, Lane Pederson and Colby Sissons were already away at NHL camps while the Broncos also gave Aleksi Heponiemi and Tyler Steenbergen the night off.

Those six players accounted for 19 of the 30 goals the Broncos had scored in the pre-season.

It was an opportunity for other guys to show how they could handle some bigger offensive minutes as the coaching staff prepares to cut down before the start of the regular season next week.

Brandan Arnold and Arthur Miller scored for Swift Current in a losing cause.

It was a tight game that started with a goaltending display by Taz Burman in the first period. He stopped all 15 Warriors shots that came mostly from three power plays and kept the Broncos in the game early.

Each team found the net in the second period as Warriors  forward Jayden Halbgewachs made a nice move before ripping a shot by Burman. Arnold responded for the Broncos as he took a lob pass from Dom Schmiemann and burst by the Warriors defence before firing the puck between the legs of Moose Jaw goaltender Adam Evanoff.

A close game changed drastically in the third period when the Warriors scored three times in 52 seconds to bust it open.

Nikita Popugaev, Halbgewachs and Ryan Bown pulled Moose Jaw ahead for good on three quick plays.

Miller got one back on a Broncos power play. They went 1 for 3 on the man advantage to finish 10 for 33 in exhibition.

Swift Current held Moose Jaw to 1 for 5 on their man advantage.

Burman made 26 stops for Swift Current in a losing cause, while Evanoff stopped 18 to get the win.

The Broncos finished pre-season play 5-2-0-1. They will open the regular season on Friday at home against Saskatoon.
