Saturday brought an increase of one in the number of active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

The Sask Health Authority’s late-afternoon daily update announced six new confirmed cases and five new recoveries.

The new cases are mostly in the north region of the province, with two apiece in both the Lloydminster and Prince Albert areas. Meanwhile the Saskatoon and Regina areas each have one case.

There are also an additional eight presumptive positive cases from the La Loche area in the far north region of the province. However, the SHA notes the cases are locally identified as such, and have not yet been reported to – and confirmed by - the Roy Romanow Provincial Lab.

There have now been 421 reported cases of the virus in Saskatchewan. The recovery total meanwhile jumped just over the 300 mark, now sitting at 302. That puts the active case total at 113.

There has also been an outbreak in Beauval, and a contact tracing investigation is underway.

A dozen residents are also in hospital battling the virus. Two are in the ICU in Saskatoon, and the remaining 10 are receiving inpatient care, split at five apiece in Saskatoon at the north region.

Breaking down the 421 cases by age range:

  • 0-19 y/o: 39 cases
  • 20-39 y/o: 153 cases
  • 40-59 y/o: 140 cases
  • 60-79 y/o: 75 cases
  • 80+ y/o: 14 cases.

A total of 30,845 COVID-19 tests have now been performed in Saskatchewan.
