July's traffic safety spotlight by provincial law enforcement and SGI focused on monitoring work zones and multiple areas of aggressive driving.

113 work zone tickets were handed out, primarily for exceeding the 60 km/h speed limit.

As Kelley Brinkworth, Manager of Media Relations at SGI explains, unsafe driving extended heavily outside of just the work zone.

"The fact that we saw more than 5300 general speeding tickets - that's a very high number.

Speeding and impaired driving are brought up when looking at some of the major contributing factors to fatal crashes. We had 338 impaired driving-related offenses and another 318 for distracted driving. 185 of those were for cellphone use while driving," she said.

Brinkworth says to be respectful of other vehicles on the road, as a driver's actions extend outside of their own vehicle.
