Saskatchewan’s livestock sector is benefitting from a $5 million investment from A&W.

The fast-food chain is investing in the University of Saskatchewan’s Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence at Clavet.

A&W promotes using 100% pure beef, raised without any added hormones or steroids.

A&W’s President and Chief Operating Officer Susan Senecal says Saskatchewan has been one of their primary sources.

"When we started the program we had beef in four provinces," she said. "We have since expanded that to seven Canadian provinces, and we are on a continuous path to increase beef from Saskatchewan. Whatever number it is today it will be a bigger number tomorrow."

She notes they are a Canadian company that strives to source Canadian products.

"We don't have enough supply in Canada, and we are committed to continuously increasing that supply," he said. "We have been very successful in doing so, and we've been able to increase our supply year over year, every single year that we've been in the province, and it's been excellent. We are very very happy with, where we are now but are even happier with where we think we can be."

She adds along with other funders in the Centre of Excellence they are united in a passion for great beef and continued advancement and innovation for healthy, sustainable growth.
