Farmer Investors were out on site Wednesday as Genesis Grain and Fertilizer held the official sod turning for their Belle Plaine SuperCenter.

Genesis is building 7 Fertilizer Distribution SuperCenters across the Prairies.

Chris Vanderstoel of Pense says with the fluctuation we see in fertilizer it made sense to invest in the project.

"Fertilizer prices have been spiking obscene levels just a few years ago," he said.

"Recently they are calming down a little bit but it is good to be controlling more of that to try and, if not reduce the price, then do some profit taking to help offset the difference."

Vanderstoel continued to explain why the project is so crucial.

"It is important I think for the farmers to have some market share in the fertilizer industry," he said.

"There are to many big players that have a stake and are claiming the profits so we just have to be in control of that a little bit too."

The Belle Plaine SuperCenter will be state of the art and will have the ability to unload rail cars at 600 tonne an hour and load 8 Super B’s an hour.

Barrie Mann is a Director with Genesis Grain and Fertilizer and says the 52 thousand tonne state of the art fertilizer blending and storage facility should be complete for the Spring of 2018 and is going to be a real game changer for farmers.
