A 10-minute phone conversation with Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau left one Saskatchewan farmer frustrated.

Morneau asked opposition MPs to send him contact information for Canadians concerned about the Liberals' proposed tax reforms, saying he would call them personally.

Terry Youzwa farms in the Nipawin area and says they talked about the Liberals' tax proposals and how they will affect intergenerational farm transfers.

"Morneau will say this is just a proposal at this time, but come on, they're trying to ram this through in 75 days during harvest," Morneau said. "The last time a major tax bill or this magnitude was done, it took over six plus years of consultation. This is tax legislation, these aren't loopholes. If these are loopholes so is an RRSP."

Youzwa said the proposed amendments are ludicrous.

"The way it's structured, the child would have to pay 40-per-cent tax on the capital gain. If you sold it to a third party you'd only pay 24 per cent of tax on a capital gain. So the message is it's easier to sell to a third party than it is to your own child, and I find this absurdely ridiculous."

Youzwa is encouraging farmers to call their MP’s, the Liberal MP’s and express their concerns.
