Cypress Hills-Grasslands MP David Anderson questioned the Federal Finance Minister on the Liberals small business tax changes last week.

Anderson cited an example of a farmer named Quinton and some of the feedback he is getting over the Liberals latest tax grab and how it will impact the ag sector and intergenerational farm transfers.

"'I`m hoping to take over this farm from my parents in the next couple of years, but now know that these proposed changes will add to an already heavily risky adventure and create even less margin for error,'" Anderson stated when quoting Quinton. "Under these changes, if his parents sell to him, they will pay far more tax than if they sell to a stranger. Why is the Finance Minster ripping apart Quinton`s dream while protecting the family income of the prime minister and his own family fortune?"

Finance Minister Bill Morneau had this to say in reply.

"Farmers, small business people, all Canadians have a stake in a fair tax system. We all want to know that we do not create incentives, so wealthy Canadians incorporate to pay lower tax rate than the middle class Canadian. For Farmers across the country, we know that their business is quite important to them and quite important to Canadians. We are going to listen to them, to make sure that we get these changes right. We want to ensure that our system does not create injustices, it allows them to be successful and all Canadians to have opportunities in the future."

Anderson is encouraging producers to take an active role by sending their concerns to Liberal MP’s and taking part in the consultation process that is set to wrap up Monday, October 2nd.
