Farm Credit Canada’s Drive Away Hunger Campaign this year provided over 7.2 million meals for food banks across Canada.

FCC’s Manager of Community Investment Carla Warnyca says once again the community support and generosity was great.

"In Saskatchewan, we had a great result once again, the people in Saskatchewan are so generous," she said. "We raised almost 840 thousand meals just in Saskatchewan alone which is a terrific result, and it will go along way to feed hungry people in our rural communities here in Saskatchewan."

She added that Swift Current played a big part as the city raised over 21 per cent of the meals donated.

"In Swift Current, there were over 183,000 meals donated, Humboldt gave 19,000 thousand, Kindersley was eight thousand, and Rosetown was just about 17,000 meals. Moose Jaw was 18,000 meals, and in Weyburn, we had over 30,000 thousand," Warnyca said. "The generosity of Canadians in people in Saskatchewan never ceases to amaze us, and how the agricultural community come together to give the food, they produce, to people who need it the most.

She notes the money and food donated at FCC’s Regional Offices go to food banks within the local community.
