The Flax Council of Canada is closing its doors January 31st on it's Winnipeg Office.

Eric Fridfinnson, Chair of the Manitoba Flax Growers Association, fills us in on what’s happening.

"What has driven it has been the concern by some of our corporate members," he said. "They've decided that they want to reduce support levels to the council. We have the decision to close the office, and we intend that the flax council as an organization will continue, although on a reduced service basis."

He says three positions are being eliminated with the office closure.

Fridfinnson says it’s a response to a cut in funding.

"Over the next couple of months, we're going to be consulting with all members of the organization and dividing a strategy to move forward in a way that's efficient and cost-effective and can still provide service to as many of our members as possible."

He says the council has been very happy with the staff they’ve done great work to support growers and the council and they feel bad about the way this has unfolded.
