There was some good news yesterday for Saskatchewan pulse growers and exporters.

India has agreed to a 3 month extension to their fumigation protocol on Canadian pulse exports.

Premier Brad Wall is pleased saying India is a key market for us:

"We supply, in any given year, up to sixty percent of all their lentil imports come from Saskatchewan pulse growers, so this is good news, we continue to work on this issue, a long-term solution is needed and we've been supported by two different federal governments in this effort, and we've engaged with India directly, so hopefully there's good news in the future about a potential long-term solution."

There was concern that India’s push to have pulses fumigated before they left Canada would impact our trade.

Board Chair Corey Loessinsays the Industry has been working together with the Federal Government.

"We're really thankful for the efforts of-in particular- the Federal Minister of Agriculture put into this issue because it is so important. Seeding is almost upon us, and at least we have some clarity for the time being, and we're really confident in the longer term that the partnership will develop into a longer-term solution."

and speaking of trade, Premier Brad Wall is set to visit Washington next week.

He’s hoping to raise awareness to the importance of Canada-US trade and the benefits of the North American Free Trade Agreemen
