Farmers south of the Trans-Canada Highway were just getting started with the harvest when the rain hit this week.

Saskatchewan Agriculture’s Weekly Crop Report shows in the Southwest about 84% of the fall rye, 28 % of the winter wheat and 2% of the lentils and field peas are now in the bin.

Shannon Friesen is Saskatchewan’s Acting Crop Management Specialist.

"Quality, for the most part, has been fairly good, yields of course not as good," she explained. "What we have heard from producers so far is that yields range from below-average to well below-average all depending on where you're and what you're moisture situation has been this year. We have heard of peas and lentils only being 4-5 bushels, but we've also heard 25-30 bushels."

This week’s Crop Report shows Provincially less than 1% of the provincial crop has been combined, while slightly more than 1% ready to straight-cut.

Overall 47% of the fall rye, 6% of the winter wheat, 2% of the lentils and 1% of the field peas are now in the bin across the Province. Pulse crops in southern and central areas of the Province are being desiccated.
