Premier Brad Wall is cautiously optimistic about the formation of Nutrien.

That’s the new company created with the recently approved merger of Potash Corp and Agrium.

He notes the companies have made a strong commitment to the province.

Saskatoon will be the registered head office and will be the only corporate centre of the new company that will see an increase in jobs.

"There will be two business units that are relocating to Saskatchewan from other places as a result of the merger," said Premier Wall. "We are going to let the company announce the specifics around those, but we are cautiously optimistic."

The Executive Chairman of the Board will be living and work in Saskatoon as well as the President of International Potash Operations.

Wall says the next Premier should be vigilant and monitor the situation to ensure these commitments to the Province are maintained.

Potash Corp and Agrium’s proposed merger recently received regulatory approval with shares for the new company now being traded on stock exchanges in Toronto and New York.

Wall says the original two company’s pledged a commitment to the province which was important for the government.

"The companies intend to where their actual head office is singled by some things, the senior operating officer as we already noted here, but also jobs, where is the larger corporate footprint, and the answer is unquietly Saskatoon and Saskatchewan."

He notes they also pledged to increase the company’s corporate office employees in Saskatchewan by 15% to approximately 300 people.
