Premier Scott Moe leaves today for a week-long trade mission to India.

Moe will meet with government and industry officials to promote and encourage trade and investment opportunities between the Province and India.

“India’s economy and population are booming and Saskatchewan has what India needs to support that growth.  Saskatchewan is a world-leading producer of sustainable food, fuel, and fertilizer, which gives us the unique ability to work with India to enhance its food and energy security. “

India is a key market for Saskatchewan, it accounts for $1.15 billion dollars in exports last year.

Saskatchewan was India’s largest supplier of peas and lentils, however, we’ve seen a drop in exports with the implementation of the Indian tariffs.

India has a 50% import tariff on peas, 30% on lentil imports and a 60% tariff on Chickpeas.

The Premier is also hoping to create opportunities for Saskatchewan uranium and potash players to grow exports to India; as well as highlight investment opportunities and advance Saskatchewan’s post-secondary linkages with India.
