Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay were in Gray, Saskatchewan today.

The two visited an area farm and met with producers and farm leaders to discuss key issues in the ag sector.

Daryl Fransoo, a Director with the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association (WCWGA) was part of the Young Farm Leaders group.

He says the Wheat Growers want to see the Trudeau government make trade and NAFTA their top priority.

"He brought that up and basically was saying the ball is in the court of the United States. The WCWGA would have a huge problem if that board was shut down to our crops. We need to make sure that the Canadian government maintains that access to our products, so that's probably the top priority right now. It sounds like we're just kind of following along and hoping for the best, while I hope our government really fights for us," he said.

"Basically, what I brought up is the good news story that farming is for the environment, and how detrimental his carbon tax plan would be seen."

Fransoo says the carbon tax will impact competitiveness in the global market against countries like the United States and Australia.
