Help for producers impacted by wildfires is starting to go out to those in need, as the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association is rolling out the first load of hay on Thursday to the Glentworth area to help producers impacted by wildfires.

President Shane Jhanke says support for their Wildfire Relief Fund continues to come with the province stepping up and contributing up to $100,000 in matching cash donations.

"Today we are sitting at about $65,000," he said. "I don't foresee any hiccups in us making it to $100,000, so we can take full advantage of matching funds from the provincial government."

Government Relations Minister Larry Doke said that they are happy to provide support to those affected.

"This was a terrible event," he said. "It affected the lives of so many people and properties and also changed the lives of so many people. We felt that the Saskatchewan Stock Growers is a credible organization through their efforts they have raised about $65,000 already. We decided as a government that we will match up to $100,000 in cash."

Doke added the government believes contributing financially to this fund is the best, most flexible and fastest way to help affected farm families in the region.

The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association will be accepting donations for the Wildfire Relief Fund next week at their booth at Canadian Western Agribition.
