The reaction seems positive to Premier Scott Moe’s selection of Wood River MLA David Marit as Saskatchewan’s new Agriculture Minister.

Todd Lewis of APAS saying Marits experience as a farmer, RM Councillor, former President of SARM and his role as MLA and former Minister of Highways all bode well for what he brings to the table.

"He and his family have farmed down in that Willow Bunch area for a number of years. So, Dave certainly understands agriculture and has been involved with it. Certainly been supportive of it for decades really I think if you take his time at SARM and his own agriculture career.  I think it's a good choice, he has lots of experience and I look forward to working with him."

SARM President Ray Orb is very familiar with the new Ag Minister, Marit being a former president of the organization.

Orb says Marit is a farmer himself and well suited to the new role.

"He understands that portfolio really well. He understands municipalities and how they deal with agriculture. He knows how producers handle different situations, whether it's flooding or drought, he's gone through all of that. It means a lot to SARM to have him in that position because it's someone we're familiar with and it's someone that we know understands the issues."

Bill Huber is President of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers and is pleased with Marit’s appointment noting they’ll have a lot of issues to cover.

"The drought and how badly it's affected certain parts of the Province. Also, there's always these trade issues and some new changes to the Veterinary Act.  So, there are all sorts of things we have to talk about and David's very approachable so I think he'll be eager to meet with us in the weeks ahead.

"The President of the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association Rick Toney is pleased with Premier Moes decision to name David Marit – Agriculture Minister.

Toney says he’s known Marit for years and is confident he’ll be fair, open and approachable in his new role.

"He's got a lot of experience with Agriculture and what not.  So, I'm quite looking forward to working with him.  He should be quite knowledgeable."

Marit says he’s looking forward to meeting with the Province’s Agricultural organizations in the weeks ahead.
