The President of SARM had a chance to see the damage first hand on Monday from the wildfires in the Southwest.

The fire destroyed about 770 head of livestock as well as pastures, cropland, feed supplies, fence lines and more.

Ray Orb says he expects to see a couple of resolutions relating to wildfire damages at their meetings next week in Regina.

"To try and convince someone of whether it would be private insurance or the province offer some kind of insurance for pasture land and that's not the case because you can't ensure pasture land," he explained. "So the loss of that pasture land especially the winter grazing is a big issue for some of the ranchers."

Orb met with the Reeves and council representatives in the 5 RM's on Monday and toured through some of the fire-ravaged areas around Burstall, Richmound and Fox Valley.

"PDAP it often covers things that are not relevant to fires but they cover flooding for instance," he said. "We're not sure why but we are going to be meeting with PDAP people and the Ministry of Ag and some of the RM's at our convention next week."

The October wildfires impacted ranchers and producers in the RM's of Chesterfield, Happy Land, Fox Valley, Deer Forks and Enterprise.

The Burstall fire covered about 75,000 acres, the Tompkins fire nearly 10,000 acres, while a fire in Glentworth burned about 3000 acres in September.
