Bill C-49 (The Transportation Modernization Act) has been sent back to the House of Commons for a second time.

Forty-three senators voted to send the bill back to the House with amendments, while 39 voted to accept Bill C-49 as presented by the House of Commons.

There were two abstentions.

The Senate's transport committee will now draft a report outlining why the amendments are necessary, after which the House will vote.

Farmers have been waiting for Bill C-49 to pass to help them with cash flow and to force the railways to move grain or face penalties.
