Shellbrook RCMP is currently investigating multiple reports of grain storage bags being slashed open in the RM of Canwood.

The vandalism impacts producers’ income as the grain is damaged when left open to the weather and pests and can cause thousands of dollars in damage.

Constable Ryan Rempel says rural residents are being reminded to watch for any suspicious activity.

"We are encouraging rural residents to record suspicious activities such as unknown vehicles at unusual hours and take down as many details as you can," he says. "The make, model, and colour of the vehicle, and a plate number if possible, and call all that information into police."

Rempel says, individuals when caught face a charge of mischief which carries a penalty of 6 months in prison and a fine of $2000.

When possible farmers are starting to locate grain bags closer to buildings and use trail cams to record any vandalism.
