Despite some recent wet weather in the province, farmers are still getting caught up on seeding.

According to the latest Saskatchewan Crop Report, 30 per cent of the provincial crop is now in the ground, just behind the five-year average of 33 percent.

Provincial Cropping Management Specialist Shannon Friesen says seeding progress varies greatly in different parts of Saskatchewan.

"The southeast part of the province leads with 60% of the crop in the ground, the southwest has 46%, east central has 19%, west central has 16%, northwest with 8% and the northeast with 4%," she said.

Friesen adds moisture conditions also vary across the province.

"In the south part things are a little bit dryer for us, in the southeast in particular, a lot of prodcures are hoping we get some rain in the next week to in order to help crops germinate and emerge," Friesen said. "The opposite is true in the north part of the province, where they've had several inches of rain and snow in the last month or two and things are still quite saturated."

Mostly due to the dry weather, Friesen says the southeast is furthest ahead with seeding.
