The Swift Current 57's dropped the first game of a two-game set with the East Division-leading Moose Jaw Miller Express, falling 6-3 to the Millers Friday night at Ross Wells Park.

Moose Jaw jumped to a 6-0 lead by the midway point on a two-run home run by Cam Grant in the second inning and a two-run triple by Austin Gurney in the third. Gurney then scored on a groundout by Grant, and Michael Speck added a solo homer in the fourth inning.

The 57's picked up three runs in the eighth inning as Tejean Smith scored on a wild pitch, and then Hayden Cooper and Mathew Ward crossed the plate on a fielding error. Swift Current had four hits and nine walks as a team, but left 12 runners on base.

Izaiah Ayala struck out four batters, but allowed five earned runs and five hits over just three innings to take the loss on the mound. Andrew Barger got the win for Moose Jaw after pitching six shutout innings and five strikeouts.

The 13-8 57's are now two games back of the 15-6 Millers for the East Division lead as the two teams get set to do battle again tonight in Swift Current. First pitch is at 7:05pm from Mitchell Field.
