After a home run derby on Wednesday, it was time for the Swift Current 57's defense to shine in a 3-1 win over the Regina Red Sox on Thursday at Mitchell Field.

Justin Barnes made three spectacular catches in centre field, including a diving catch for the final out in the first inning that left the bases loaded, and pitchers Adam Golby and Trent Greek combined for eight innings of shutout ball. The Red Sox wound up leaving 11 runners on base in the game.

Nick Chavez hit an RBI double to score Logan Stockton all the way from first base in the second inning, and Brody Alexandre hit a single to left to bring in Logan Grant in the fourth. Mathew Ward also scored on a wild pitch in that inning. Regina got their lone run in the ninth inning as Dylan Edmands scored on an error.

Golby struck out six batters over six innings to get the win on the mound, and local product Dawson Schultz pitched the ninth to get his first career WCBL save. Preston Tenney took the loss for Regina.

The 57's (13-7) head to the Friendly City on Friday to face the Moose Jaw Miller Express in a battle of the top two teams in the East Division. Swift Current will host Moose Jaw Saturday at 7:05 from Mitchell Field.
