The Swift Current 57's extended their winning streak to a season-high eight games in a 10-5 win over the Medicine Hat Mavericks Friday night at Mitchell Field.

The 57's jumped out to a 10-0 lead on the strength of a two-run single by Logan Stockton in the third, and a three-run home run by Mathew Ward in the sixth inning. Logan Grant and Cory Bonstrom also drove in runs for Swift Current.

Starter Brandon Byler pitched six scoreless innings and struck out three batters, then Alexander Fijal and Dawson Schultz held off the Mavericks' rally to give Byler the win. Mathew Krall took the loss for Medicine Hat.

The 57's (26-23) inched closer to the top of the WCBL's East Division standings with their eight-game winning streak and recent slumps for the teams ahead of them. Moose Jaw lost 7-4 to Fort McMurray for their seventh straight loss, and Regina dropped an 8-6 decision to Lethbridge for their second loss in a row. Swift Current is now 1.5 games back of the Miller Express and Red Sox for first place.

Swift Current has seven games remaining, including three games against Moose Jaw and one against Regina. The 57's face the Miller Express Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm from Mitchell Field and then host Medicine Hat one more time on Monday night at 7:05pm.
