The Swift Current 57's offence exploded in the Gas City this afternoon in a convincing 15-9 win over the Medicine Hat Mavericks.

Swift Current plated seven runs in the second inning and tacked on another eight between the third, fifth, and eighth innings.

Ethan Murdoch and Nolan Lingley both went 2-for-5 for the 57's both driving in a team-high two runs while each scoring a run.

The seven-run inning began with a two-run homer by Lingley that tied the game at 2-2. 57's centre fielder Cory Bonstrom singled a pair home. Catcher Xander Little scored on a sac fly, Bonstrom scored on a putout, and Carter Hinds scored on a Murdoch single.

After Medicine Hat cut the lead to 7-3, Braxton Haggith singled to plate Brody Alexandre and Ethan Gonzalez single-scored Haggith pushing the lead to 9-3 in the third inning.

Gonzalez had another RBI single in the top of the fifth inning. Murdoch notched his second hit of the afternoon scoring another two runs and making it 12-4.

Medicine Hat scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh to cut the deficit to 12-7. The 57's extended their lead again in the eighth on a two-run single courtesy of Kelton Saylor and a one-run single by Hinds.

The Mavericks would score twice more in the ninth inning but that's as close as the 15-9 contest would get.

57's starting pitcher Will Gifford threw four innings allowing three earned runs, striking out four, and was credited with the win.

Swift Current is now off until Wednesday night when they'll host the Regina Red Sox at Mitchell Field.
