Participants were hoping for a frisbee in one at the first annual Canadian Mental Health Association Spring Fling Disc Golf Tournament that took place this past weekend.

Executive Director with CMHA Swift Current, Todd Vallee explains the connection between the sport and the CMHA.

"Our members really enjoy disc golf and getting out in nature. The physical activity is really good for mental health and it's something that has been ridiculously popular with our members since the course opened here."

Reflecting on how the idea for the tournament came to be, Vallee says they were looking for a new fundraising opportunity and something that had not been done before.

Vallee provides details on where the funds raised will be allocated.

"The money raised is going to go to our programming fund it's not going to be earmarked for our new facility or anything. There is a $40 registration fee for all of our golfers here. We have two categories, a fun nine hole and a competitive 18 hole."

Vallee says that the disc golf community in Swift Current is also excited as their numbers continue to grow weekly with more people coming out to enjoy the sport.

He also adds that they hope the event will continue to get bigger and better each year and help to grow the sport and raise funds for the CMHA.
