The skies are clear in the forecast for what is going to be a great day in southwest Saskatchewan.

This Sunday, Abbey will be hosting the 2022 Grey Cup Festival for the day.

The day will feature not only a chance to get your photo with the esteemed CFL trophy, but also meet CFL'ers, enjoy food and drinks, and tonnes of activities throughout the day for both the young and old.

Bryce Bunz is a festival coordinator for the Grey Cup Festival 2022, and he's excited to see everyone come out for a day full of football-themed fun.

"I expect to see lots of local folks coming on out, checking out the Grey Cup, hanging out, having a good time with each other and really just celebrating everything," said Bunz.

The day will feature everything from a meet and greet with Gainer the Gohper and some Roughriders, to kids' activities like a bouncy castle, face painting and rider tattoos. Adult activities will also kick off during the day, with beer gardens, live music, food and Grey Cup photos all scheduled to take place. Even the cheer squad will be making an appearance, helping to keep the mood high and the smiles wide.

For anyone who is wondering about photos with the Grey Cup, there will be official handlers there to guide you through the protocols.

"The CFL does a great job of hiring great cup handlers," said Bunz. "We'll have a great cup handler on hand with us, who will be bringing up the Grey Cup and doing the day-to-day stuff with us at these events."

Abbey won the chance to host the event during the Richardson Pioneer Community Celebration Event, where they won not only having the cup in town but also $25,000 to put towards their local playground. The money will help refurbish and upgrade the play space with a rubberized surface, so future CFL'ers from Abbey will have a safe space to grow up and play.

The cup will roll in with everyone from the festival at 2 p.m. Once they arrive, they will be going the full nine yards to bring the good times with them for everyone who shows up.
