The Swift Current Comprehensive High School Ardens punched their ticket to the HOOPLA Provincial High School Basketball Championships with an unbeaten run through 5A girls regionals in Lloydminster on the weekend.

The Ardens, coming into regionals as the #1 rural team in Saskatchewan, defeated Estevan 104-37 and beat Moose Jaw Peacock 70-34 to set up a final matchup against Prince Albert St. Mary, where Swift Current would win 76-44 to take the regional title.

Elsewhere, Maple Creek hosted 3A girls regionals where they defeated Moosomin 61-41 and then faced Unity in the final, where the Rebelles lost 58-41 to end their season. The Herbert Laurels also hosted 2A boys regionals on the weekend but dropped out of contention with an opening loss 84-72 to Paradise Hill. Herbert won the consolation game 83-56 over Foam Lake to wrap up their season.

The Shaunavon Shadows went to Regina for 3A boys regionals and won their opening game 78-66 over Creighton before an 89-49 loss to Regina Christian ended their season. The Vanguard Valkyrs lost their lone game of 1A boys regionals in Saskatoon, a 60-57 setback to Allen.

The Ardens will be the lone Southwest team at HOOPLA next weekend, but head into Prince Albert as one of the strongest teams in the province.

Comp wrestlers compete at provincials

Five wrestlers from SCCHS competed at SHSAA provincial championships in Regina this weekend.

Titus Erick was the top finisher, placing fourth in the 65kg category. Chaz Vandervoort finished fifth in the 69kg class, and Brooklyn Hir and Ella Toles also finished fifth in the 50kg and 68kg classifications, respectively.

Also representing SCCHS at provincials were Colton Koethler, Keyanna Ginter-Bennet, Waylan Ratzlaff, Dakota Hurl, Kaylin Read, Nicole Pelletier, Rece Schindel, and Emmitt Wiebe.
