A Swift Current man was facing multiple serious charges after an incident late last year, when alleged assaults and threats with weapons took place at an apartment on Robert Street East.

34-year-old Derek Ruest’s most recent appearance in Swift Current Provincial Court was last Wednesday, when the matter was concluded.

“We stayed the charge all charges against him. The reason being, we felt that there was not enough evidence to proceed."

Ruest was originally facing a total of eight charges when arrested by Swift Current Municipal RCMP and the Saskatchewan RCMP Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) on December 29.

The stayed charges include one sexual assault, one assault, pointing a firearm, possessing a firearm when prohibited, possessing a knife for a dangerous purpose, and trafficking a Schedule I controlled substance.

During a search of the apartment after Ruest's arrest, officers found an imitation firearm, a machete, and suspected fentanyl.
