Dutch Elm Disease is once again running rampant in Saskatchewan.

The disease, carried by the Elm Bark Beetles, is always a problem in Saskatchewan. In order to attempt to keep the situation under control, Saskatchewan Environment has joined forces with 40 cities, towns and villages to keep costs low for the communities.

Andy Toth, Parks Manager for the City of Swift Current, says that homeowners shouldn’t hesitate when Dutch Elm is suspected.

He adds that Swift Current is pretty lucky to have avoided the disease thus far.

Prompt removal of infected trees is important in the prevention of the spreading of the disease.

If you think a tree has Dutch Elm Disease, you are urged to call 1-800-SASK-ELM or visit the Government of Saskatchewan website.
