A former Swift Current Bronco is finding a new home as the NHL's free agency period started on Wednesday.
Forward Lane Pederson was traded from the San Jose Sharks to the Carolina Hurricanes in a deal that also sent longtime Sharks defenceman Brent Burns to the Hurricanes in exchange for Steven Lorentz, Eetu Makiniemi and a conditional third round pick in 2023. Burns had three years left on the contract extension he signed with the Sharks in 2016, and San Jose will be retaining 33% of his salary.
Pederson scored 39 goals and 99 points in 99 regular season games with the Broncos from 2016-17, and three goals and seven points in 12 playoff games in 2017. He also has a goal and four assists in 44 career NHL games.
He signed as a free agent with the Arizona Coyotes in October, 2016, but Pederson has spent most of his professional career in the AHL, playing four seasons with the Tucson Roadrunners before Arizona traded him to the Sharks last year. He signed a two-year contract after the trade, and then went to the San Jose Barracuda after clearing waivers in February.
