"Golden Jet" honoured as Winnipeg beats Blues

Josh Morrissey and Mark Scheifele scored two goals each as the Winnipeg Jets beat St. Louis 4-2 in the NHL’s only game on Monday night. Saku Maenalanen and Kyle Connor added two assists each and Connor Hellebuyck made 24 saves.

The Jets paid tribute to the late Bobby Hull before the game. The Hall of Famer, who passed away at age 84 Monday, played for the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and Hartford Whalers as well as the World Hockey Association's Winnipeg Jets over a 23-year pro career. In 1961, he helped lead the Blackhawks to their first Stanley Cup in 23 years and in 1966, he became the first player in NHL history to score more than 50 goals in a single season. In 1972, Hull jumped to the upstart WHA when he signed a million-dollar contract with the Jets on the corner of Portage and Main in downtown Winnipeg. The deal was the biggest in hockey at the time, bringing relevance to the fledgling league and starting an escalation in player salaries. Hull won two AVCO World Trophies with the Jets in 1976 and 1978 before the WHA merged with the NHL in 1979.

In other NHL news, the Vancouver Canucks traded captain Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders in exchange for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty and a conditional first round pick in the 2023 draft. Horvat was in the middle of a career-high season with 31 goals and 55 points and was named to the Pacific Division all-star roster.

Montreal hosts Ottawa as part of a light three-game schedule in the NHL tonight.
