Started back in 2018, it drew huge crowds to Shaunavon, plus won a Saskatchewan Tourism Award in 2019, the Boomtown Cup Lawnmower Races is back at Boomtown Days in Shaunavon.

The races will be held this Friday evening at the track just north of the Shaunavon Hospital. Gates will open  at five o'clock with the Calcutta and races beginning at six.

Greg Coburn from the organizing committee talks about other things will be happening during the races.

"The Shaunavon Fire Department is going to do the Beer Gardens for us, and we're going to have a few different food vendors. There'll be burgers, water, and freezies for the kids. We also have a sand pit for the kids where we have a few hundred dollars in coins that we' re going to bury in the sand, so the kids can go over there and dig up some money."

Coburn adds they are looking to have about 16 entries this year, with a special event at Intermission.

Some grandstand seating will be available but people are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.

Admission is by silver collection with all proceeds going back into the community.

After the races there will be a live D-Jay.
