Swift Current's Canada Day celebration will start a bit earlier than usual this year.
Thanks to a $15,000 grant from Heritage Canada, the City will host a number of 'Celebrate Canada' events leading up to the country's 155th birthday starting in less than two weeks.
"We have the opportunities to bring in a variety of partner organizations within Swift Current to work together to truly celebrate what Canada means to all us and to celebrate multiple days," Nicole Spenst, the event and program manager for the City of Swift Current, said.
A capote workshop will kick the series of events off on June 20. In celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21), a teepee raising and cultural program will be held. June 25 will feature a multicultural party at Market Square. Canadian Multiculturalism Day (June 27) will have a fundraising lunch. From June 29-July 2 - Innovation Credit Union Cultural & Community Stage will host performers.
And on Canada Day - the Frontier Days Parade will be the first of many events. Next, is a flag-raising at Memorial Park. Closing out the festivities is the Living Sky Casino fireworks show held at Kinetic Park.
"It's truly two weeks of events for everyone to really reflect and find out what Canada means to them," she said. "And why it's significant to them for them to be able to celebrate."
