The ag sector is continually changing and farmers will need to change with it. The ag sector is continually changing and farmers will need to change with it. That’s the message from Richard Worzel is a professional futurist, author and consultant. He says you can’t just produce one cash crop and expect to continue to do that. Farmers will have to re-evaluate what they produce, how they produce it and for what market. He says with new niche markets opening up there’s more of an opportunity for profit. Overall, he says the future is brighter than it has been in years for farming but it won’t be easy and it won’t be handed to you on a silver platter. Worzel feels there are opportunities that are now emerging with technology such as in ethanol and bio-diesel. Worzel was a featured speaker last week for the Saskatchewan Canola Growers Association. He sees great opportunities for Canola with the Bio-Diesel Industry and the fact that people are becoming more health conscious.
