Christmas movies are something of a tradition for many folks, with the cinematic experience highlighting the giving spirit of the holidays in many films.

In Swift Current, the Cinema Twin Theatre is hoping to inspire community members to come out to their Free Santa Matinee on Sunday, along with any donations they can spare for either the local food bank or the Swift Current SPCA.

This year's film will be Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Leading the campaign at the theatre, is Kathy Pratt, owner-operator of Cinema Twin in Swift Current.

"We're asking people to bring donations so that we can help other less fortunate people out that are having a hard time this Christmas," said Pratt. "This way we can give, and other people can also give, and we can just kind of pay it forward."

Cinema Twin first began the Free Santa Matinee back before the pandemic, with hopes of sparking the event back to life this year and perhaps turning it into a tradition they undertake every Christmas season.

"Santa is going to be in attendance before the show," Pratt revealed. "And there may even be a surprise visit by one of the minions."

Entry is free for anyone who attends, with the show starting at 12:15 p.m. All donations are optional, but folks are encouraged to bring non-perishables like canned goods, or pet food and supplies.
