A new speed reduction is officially in effect for a couple of spots around the city.

As baseball season gets underway, the ball diamonds fill with players, family, volunteers, and fans.

Now, a stretch of 19 Avenue Northeast from the Innovation Plex to Laurier Drive, and the City Recreation Complex diamonds' roadway have speed limits of 30 kilometres per hour.

Nicole Spenst, General Manager of Community Services for the City of Swift Current, said they've been working with user groups and the community to make sure minor sport organizations can play safely this summer.

"This is something we've been looking at for a while," she said. "We're excited to work with our user group and infrastructure and operations to put in these slow zones through the months of May to September, to help look after the safety of our participants using these facilities.

"Just a reminder to watch out in all park areas as well as recreational areas. It is summer, kids are out riding their bikes and trying to be active and sometimes they forget to use those signals and look both ways before they cross the road."
