The hot dry conditions really advanced crop development this year.   A number of producers normally like to top dress in crop for improved yield or protein but for some they may have missed that opportunity.   Grant McLean is the Cropping Management Specialist with Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food.   He says in most cases producers top dressing about now would have been looking for a protein boost while the boost in yield now would be minimal at this point in the crop stage.   McLean adds in order to get absorption of the nutrients a good rain is needed – something that many producers are looking for right now.
