It’s that time of year when folks can expect to see ducks flocking together at Riverside Park for the annual Duck Derby. 

Local businesses challenged each other over the last month to participate in the annual fundraiser, put together by Southwest Crisis Services. 

The event launches with a barbecue on Saturday afternoon, and the rubber ducks hit the water at 3 p.m. 

Becky Walker, executive director of the organization, said that while the financial aspect is always needed, it’s not the only reason for the derby. 

“It’s awesome that we’re creating a space for conversation about what we do,” she expressed. “We just want people to know that after the pandemic we’re still around and they can still access help.” 

Some of the non-profit's services include a safe shelter, domestic violence services, crisis line, sexual assault services, and clinical counselling. 

Tickets for the charity event can be purchased for $10 at a number of local businesses, directly through the Southwest Crisis Centre’s phone number and Facebook, or at the event itself. 

Four lucky ducks will win one of the prize packages below: 

BBQ Package: valued at $3,275 and includes a Louisiana Grill/Smoker, 1/4 of beef cut & wrapped, and more. 

Car Care Package: valued at $3,077 and includes over $1,200 in fuel cards, oil changes, wheel alignment, car detailing, and more. 

Dining Out Package: valued at $2,912 and includes Gift Cards to over 38 restaurants in the surrounding area. 

Self-Care Package: valued at $1,885 and includes massages, hair services and products, a photo session, and more.
