Jon Groenheyde helped lead a young Edmonton Oil Kings team on a late drive to the playoffs last season.
He's hoping to do the same thing with the Broncos this season.
"No one can take a night off from here on out and these are our
playoffs," Groenheyde said. "If we don't make the best of what we have
right now than we aren't going to be in the playoffs. Just coming out
every night, grinding it out and just doing everything possible to get
the wins."
Groenheyde is doing his part. He's 3-3 in 6 games this month with a 2.92
goals against average and a very strong 0.920 save percentage.
Groenheyde also earned his first WHL shut out in a 4-0 victory over Red
Deer on Saturday.
"It feels good," Groenheyde said. "Obviously I wanted to get a shut out
before my (WHL) career ended. It's such a team stat I'm really proud of
the boys the way we came back after a tough performance (against
Saskatoon)."
His play impressed the coaching staff.
"He was unbelievable all weekend," said Broncos Assistant Coach Andy
Schneider. "On Friday night against Saskatoon that score could easily
have been 8 or 9 to 1. He played great and he kept it going (against Red
Deer) and he was the difference."
Groenheyde came to Swift Current earlier this season in a deal for
veteran forward Jordan Peddle. He was somewhat inconsistent early in his
Broncos career, but the veteran from Surrey has been at his best of
late.
"I try and play the same way every night," Groenheyde said. "It's been
working the last few weeks and it's awesome because it feels like every
puck just hits you."
